At the Oasis, we believe that the Church was created to serve the community, not itself. The purpose of the Church is not survival, but mission. We have had a number of key issues emerge as we have engaged our community: the need of affordable food, support for pregnant & parenting young people with a commitment to completing their studies, increasing the pride in our school campuses through our RAK's, mentoring young people in lower primary who are at risk of destructive behaviours, social connections for those over 50, musical presentations within our sourrounding aged care facilities and much much more. More recently we have discovered the need to provide support to the homeless and disadvantaged in the Goodna area as an extenion of our discount food outlet, we have also established a counseling service currently being offered out of our Springfield Resource Centre and are about to start our first intake for DivorceCare to help people on their journey of healing during and following divorce. Follow the links on the menu to explore these and other initiatives that The Oasis faith community are currently exploring. You will notice at The Oasis that we have intentionally de-programed the church in order to allow people time and energy to engage with their respective community context across the Greater Springfield Region. This is an intentional action to position The Oasis as an outward focussed faith community not a self serving community. Care for fellow Oacians is offered through natural connections and firendships which are forged as we simply do life together. We do not run attractional programs/events but rather have decided to dedicate ourselves to initiatives that build community and forge relationships. We are committed to engaging family, firends and neighbours in our normal traffic patterns of life. |
